February 26, 2008 Kato GS-4 owners! While the GS4 operates well in DC mode, we understand there is an issue with the use of DCC in the GS4 locomotive.
To prevent damage to the locomotive and decoders, we ask that customers DO NOT install decoders in their locomotives and to NOT operate them on DCC until we announce a correction to this issue in the very near future.
We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause some of our customers.
We will resolve this issue in a timely and effective manner.

December was a very bad month for the hobby business as we had ice and snow all four weekends. We averaged two customers per Saturday. We had a lot new items come in but nothing going out. We are having to make a lot of adjustments . UPS just raised their shipping rates 6.9%. As usual, shipping has become a very big part of our overhead. The biggest problem we find is that no new people are getting into the hobby. Most of you have your layouts completed and therefore are not needing much in new rolling stock as you have no where to put it. Our Ebay store is what has kept us alive the last few months by selling a lot of old inventory at our cost and thats slowed down with the holidays. We have a lot items been on the hold shelf for months that have not been picked up. We have to pay our distrubtors within 10-30 days from date shipped and some even require pre-reservations paid for up front. When items not picked up, we pay. So effective now, we will hold items no longer than 30 days without prior arrangements and no discounts allowed on items. We are no longer discounting paints due to them having to ship separately as a hazardous material. Maximum discount will be 15% to offset shipping except for pre-orders. We will still do 20% on pre-orders except short discounted items (Sound/DCC Engines, Broadway Limited, Tower 55 etc). Check our web site for our ebay store link. If you want that price, bring in the sheet with the item and we will honor it. For all you out towners who mail order us, give me the Ebay item # for price. Our new hours are 10AM to 6PM. We are still closed on Thursdays & Sundays.

We are going to have to get hard nosed on special orders as our hold shelves are overloaded. Some of these items have been there a year. We are cleaning them off January 1st and starting over. Any thing over a month will be removed and you will be put on the no order list unless prior arrangements are made. We have not required payment up front due to the paper work involved and will not in the future. The best way to handle it is remove offenders from preorder list.
