Helen Thomas Deviates From the Terrorism Script
by Glenn GreenwaldFollowing up on Thursday's post concerning our collective refusal to
discuss how American actions and policies fuel Terrorism:
at a White House press conference yesterday with Janet Napolitano and
John Brennan, Helen Thomas shows -- yet again -- that she's one of
the very few White House reporters willing to deviate from approved
orthodoxy scripts. She asks the prohibited question about the motives
of Terrorists, and keeps asking as she receives complete non-responses,
until they all just decide to ignore her:continued:

...But from a social science, explanatory point of view,
what we have to remember is that there can be a handful of
al-Balawis, or there can be thousands or hundreds of
thousands. It depends on how many Abu Ghraibs, Fallujahs,
Lebanons and Gazas the United States initiates or supports
to the hilt. Unjust wars and occupations radicalize people.
The American Right wing secretly knows this,
but likes the vicious circle it produces.
Wars make profits for the military-industrial complex,
and the resulting terrorism terrifies the clueless US public
and helps hawks win elections, allowing them to pursue
further wars.
And so it goes, until the Republic is bankrupted and in
ruins and its unemployed have to live in tent cities.DENNIS KUCINICH
We have come a great distance in seventy-five years; from the New Deal to the Raw Deal, from having nothing to fear but fear itself, to being afraid of everything. We traded democracy's warm heart containing the ideals of faith, fairness and frugality, for the greedy, cold calculations of the Dow Jones ticker. The New Deal saved free market capitalism with jobs and regulation; now both sink in the swamp of speculation, manipulation and capitulation. The Golden Rule of "do unto others as you would have them do unto you," is submerged by the rule of gold, "do unto others before they do unto you."
Some people will ask of this Congress, what were we thinking? Why did we give $700 billion bailout to Wall Street without fixing what caused the problem in the first place? Why did we rig the free markets for security fraudsters? Why didn't we explore alternatives to let Wall Street solve its own problems? Why didn't we have money save millions of homeowners, create millions of jobs, and a green economy? Why didn't we stop the speculators? Why wasn't there accountability? Why didn't we take time to make an intelligent decision?
Why? Why? Why?

Bush is my shepherd; I dwell in want.
He maketh logs to be cut down in national forests.
He leadeth trucks into the still wilderness.
He restoreth my fears.
He leadeth me in the paths of international disgrace for his ego's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of pollution and war, I will find no exit,
for thou art in office.
Thy tax cuts for the rich and thy media control, they discomfort me.
Thou preparest an agenda of deception in the presence of thy religion.
Thou anointest my head with foreign oil.
My health insurance runneth out.
Surely megalomania and false patriotism shall follow me all the days of thy term,
And my jobless child shall dwell in my basement forever.
A good example of why the U.S. Armed Forces W.M.D.
are UnAmerican
WHAT ABOUT These AMERICAN

IF America is allowed to use its WMD to kill millions of people in
Korea,Vietnam,Cambodia,El Salvador,Guatemala, Nicaragua, Iraq, ect
Than ALL Nations Should have WMD to defend themselves against
the Evil American Empire.
Imagine the possibillities if : The $ Billions $ was spent on Rebuilding America's Roads, Schools, Hospitals,
Public Transit Systems, ect. And NOT making Killing Machines.
Only then will GOD begin to bless America once again.
| "Masters of War" is a song by Bob Dylan, written in 1963 and released on the album The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan. It is an adaptation, with new words by Dylan, of "Nottamun Town". As with many of the major songs Dylan composed at this time, he often adapted or "borrowed" melodies from traditional songs. On this occasion however, he had borrowed an arrangement by veteran folksinger Jean Ritchie. The arrangement of "Nottanum Town", unknown to Dylan, had been in her family for generations, and Ritchie wanted an acknowledgement on the writing credit. This, however, was not to be the case, as Dylan's lawyers paid her $5,000 to settle and agree not to make further claims. There is a live, electric version on Dylan's Real Live album. In his 1994 Hiroshima concert, Dylan played the first acoustic version of "Masters of War" since 1963. Dylan also played the song in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on the night of the 2004 U.S. presidential election. Dylan spoke to USA Today's Edna Gundersen about the song the day before the September 11th attacks. In the article, Dylan is quoted as saying that the song "is supposed to be a pacifistic song against war. It's not an anti-war song. It's speaking against what Eisenhower was calling a military-industrial complex as he was making his exit from the presidency. That spirit was in the air, and I picked it up." |
Lyrics: (1) Come you masters of war You that build all the guns You that build the death planes You that build the big bombs You that hide behind walls You that hide behind desks I just want you to know I can see through your masks (2) You that never done nothin' But build to destroy You play with my world Like it's your little toy You put a gun in my hand And you hide from my eyes And you turn and run farther When the fast bullets fly (3) Like Judas of old You lie and deceive A world war can be won You want me to believe But I see through your eyes And I see through your brain Like I see through the water That runs down my drain (4) You fasten the triggers For the others to fire Then you set back and watch When the death count gets higher You hide in your mansion As young people's blood Flows out of their bodies And is buried in the mud |
(5) You've thrown the worst fear That can ever be hurled Fear to bring children Into the world For threatening my baby Unborn and unnamed You ain't worth the blood That runs in your veins (6) How much do I know To talk out of turn You might say that I'm young You might say I'm unlearned But there's one thing I know Though I'm younger than you Even Jesus would never Forgive what you do (7) Let me ask you one question Is your money that good Will it buy you forgiveness Do you think that it could I think you will find When your death takes its toll All the money you made Will never buy back your soul (8) And I hope that you die And your death'll come soon I will follow your casket In the pale afternoon And I'll watch while you're lowered Down to your deathbed And I'll stand o'er your grave 'Til I'm sure that you're dead from the album 'The Freewheelin Bob Dylan' 1963 - Columbia Records |
