Radio Broadcasting for Those Who Are Blind or
Print-Impaired in Los Angeles County
Signalling a new milestone in building a radio studio for the blind, Adam Silver organized
and directed a Saturday project to paint newly installed dry wall. With Boy Scout Troop
246, Silver will earn his Eagle Badge by constructing the studio.
The project required soliciting building materials from local suppliers and motivating
skilled workers to donate construction effort. Now that the walls are in place, the
painting effort is preparing the job for installation of the drop ceiling, door jambs and
windows. Refreshments were provided by Silver who received donations from neighborhood
merchants.
When completed the studio will be used by a special radio station that reads current
publications for blind and print-impaired listeners. The station can only be heard through
a special subcarrier receiver.
