January 1, 2007 - Present
I am currently preparing for my second month long visit to Beijing, with the goal to find employment, a teaching position, something to get me involved in the exciting development that is happening in China, where it is "all going on". Got bit by the bug - again, I guess. Will be stopping in Hanoi on the way back, where former co-worker Andy is based. He is telling me "it" is happening there, too, so I might as well make him prove it to me.

Consequential to the merger between Bell Atlantic and GTE, Verizon is consolidating product offerings in its former multiple footprints, and relaunching the product through 2003, to include, additional to fiber based 10/100 Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet.
On September 11, 2001, I was Product Manager for Transparent LAN Service and Gigabit Ethernet Service for the Verizon data service subsidiary. As such, I and my team were tasked with the rebuild of our service offerings both in downtown Mahattan, and in Federal Government facilities in Washington, D.C. and Arlington, VA.
During an eight month period, we rebuilt services in and around Wall Street, and under an FCC emergency waiver, extended service across the Hudson River to the Jersey Shore, where many financial insitutions that had been in the WTC had relocated. Downtown servers and fibre switches were for the most part replaced, having sustained water and smoke damage, while interim services were provided from our server park in Midtown Manhattan.
In Washington/Arlington, we were able to restart service almost immediately, using an existing backup fibre node (our primary node had been destroyed).
A narrative and photographs are here.
New York, December 18, 2000 -- Using technology provided by Enron Broadband Services, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Enron Corp. (NYSE:ENE) and Motorola, Verizon (NYSE: VZ), formed by the merger of Bell Atlantic and GTE, today successfully turned up Video on Demand service over residential DSL at a customer residence in Northern Manhattan. Blockbuster Inc. (NYSE:BBI), a publicly traded subsidiary of Viacom Inc. (NYSE:VIA, VIA.B), provides streaming on-demand consumer video with fully interactive capabilities (fast forward, rewind, pause, restart etc. during this technical trial. The Manhattan installation is the first of its kind that utilizes installed consumer ADSL with existing Verizon customers.
Responsible for deployment of IP services and their associated infrastructure, my team's first deployed product is the Auto Registration server system.
