Professional activities Founder and President of Cambridge Elec-
tronics Laboratories, which designs and markets high-technology
telecommunications equipment.
Concurrently since 1976, consultant to many private firms, gov-
ernmental bodies, international agencies and educational institu-
tions with Far East operations, concentrating in the fields of
new business development, new technology introduction, strategic
planning, successful negotiating strategies, and political risk.
Entities served have included the Asian Institute of Technology,
Appropriate Technology International, U.S. Department of State,
United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the
Pacific, World Bank and many private manufacturing, energy and
financial firms.
Invited lecturer on technology transfer, international politico-
economic relations and Asian affairs at Harvard University, Yale
University, Tel Aviv University, Australian National University,
U.S. Department of State Foreign Service Institute, the National
Defense College of Japan, the Institute of Southeast Asian Stu-
dies Singapore, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College
and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Advisor to Thammasat
University (Bangkok) Masters in Management program.
Military Awarded Combat Infantryman's Badge for service in Viet-
nam; later assigned to Army and Department of Defense staffs and
to various positions in Asia. Graduate of U.S. Army Command and
General Staff College. Awarded Meritorious Service Medal upon
retirement in the Army Reserve with rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Publications Extensive publications in books and professional
journals including Asian Business and Industry, Asian Survey,
Foreign Policy, ESCAP Journal, Modern Asian Studies, the Yale Re-
view and Military Officer. Principal topics include technology
transfer, political and economic change, strategic planning, and
U.S. foreign policy.
