Maps of California
(Boynton.) Mining Regions of California. 1852. From Leavitt's Farmer's Almanack... for...1853. Boston. 6 1/4 x 3 3/8." Very good.
This small map of the California (gold) mining region appeared in (and remains bound in) the 1853 edition of Dudley Leavitt's Old Farmer's Almanack. The map depicts the area from Mt. Shasta in the north to San Luis Obispo in the south. On the page facing the map is a description of California that focuses on eight of the new state's principal cities. (The almanac itself consists of 48 pages. It is generally in very good condition with some dampstaining in the margins and a 2 ' x 6" excision from one leaf.) [Item No. 2140.] $125.00.(U.S. Coast Survey.) Reconnaissance of San Clemente Harbor California [with] Reconnaissance of Prisoner's Harbor California [with] Reconnaissance of Cuyler's Harbor... 1852. U.S. Coast Survey. 17 1/2 x 13 1/2." Folded chart with light darkening along horizontal fold.
Three separate harbors are charted on this sheet. Approach views of San Clemente Harbor and Cuyler's Harbor (on San Miguel Island) by W. B. McMurtrie add considerable charm to the chart. [Item No. 2169.] $100.00.
