Maps of Florida

(Bellin.)   Karte von den Kuesten des Franzoesischen Florida.   1756.   (Leipzig.)       8 1/8 x 5 5/8."   Lightly age-toned with a couple of small spots.
An attractive map of the coast from Cape Fear, North Carolina to St. Augustine, Florida.  This is a German adaptation of a Bellin map, identifying rivers and major towns.  Includes several interesting notations concerning name changes of rivers.  Also, a notation (in German) "On this island [southwest of Charleston, SC] Ribault built a small fort and named it Charles Fort."   Cumming, The Southeast in Early Maps: 259.   [Item No. 2025]   $250.00.

An elegant French rendering of part of the Gulf Coast, dated 1778 and published for the Neptune Americo-Septentrional.  The chart covers the area between St. Joseph Bay and Vermilion Bay.  Numerous rivers, bays, islands and lakes are identified, as are the towns/forts of Pensacola, Mobile, Biloxi and New Orleans.  A few historical notes are included, such as "F. Crevecoeur Abandonne par les Francois en 1718."  Rhumb lines and coastal soundings further graphically enhance a very attractive chart.   Sellers & Van Ee, Maps and Charts of North America and the West Indies, 1750-1789: 1611.    [Item no. 2272.]     $2,500.00

(Political Magazine/Lodge.)   Plan of the Town and Harbour of St. Augustin, in East Florida.   1783.   From Political Magazine, March, 1783 issue.   London.   7 x 9 3/4."   Occasional very light foxing; extra fold lines.  Very strong impression.
An attractive map of the area around St. Augustine, Florida from 1783.  The town proper is represented by a grid of twelve blocks.   Also identified are The Little Fort, Indian Town, Negroe Fort and General Oglethorpe's Landing Place.   Among the geographic features noted are Matanzas River, St. Marks River, St. Sebastian's River and part of Anastasia Island.   Jolly, Maps of America in Periodicals before 1800: 400.   [Item No. 2133.]   $325.00.

(Blunt.) Pensacola Harbour, Reduced from the Survey of Maj. Kearney, U.S.T.E., By E. Blunt. From Blunt's American Coast Pilot. New York.  1854.  10 1/4 x 8."  Foxing and light dampstaining, confined primarily to the margins.

This small chart of Pensacola harbor, from the 17th edition of Blunt's American Coast Pilot, provides numerous soundings throughout the harbor.  Features identified are Rosa Island, Deer Point and Sandy Point.  In addition to the U.S. Navy Yard and U.S. Naval Hospital, three forts are located: McCrea, Barrancas and Pickens.  The town of Pensacola is denoted by a (small) grid of streets.  [Item # 2265.]   $85.00.
