Maps of Washington

(U.S. Government.)   Map of that Part of Washington Territory Lying West of the Cascade Mounts. to accompany the Report of the Surveyor General, 1857.   1857.    U.S. Government -- Senate Ex. Doc. No. 5, 34th Cong., 3rd Sess.    Philadelphia.    15 1/2 x 10 1/8."   Very clean with no fold browning.  Folded as issued.  Trimmed close at top of left neat line with 1/2" binding tear.  Misfold at top left corner.  Overall, a very nice example.
Considerable geographic detail is presented in this map, with many lakes, rivers, mountains and towns identified.  An area east of present-day Tacoma is labeled  "Claimed by the Puget Sound Agricultural Company."  Seattle appears as the terminus of "Stevens Route Pacific Railroad."   Relief shown by hachures.  Among the features keyed in the legend are Indian reservations, saw mills and flouring mills.  A nice early mapping of western Washington.    [Item No. 2171.]   $125.00.
